Project 3- Opinion piece blog post
- https://cyberconfidentiality.com/rethinking-how-we-handle-cybercriminals-in-kenya/
Problem Statement
This blog post discusses whether current responses to cybercrime in Kenya are effective or if alternative approaches could better harness talent and strengthen national cybersecurity.
Approach
I wrote the blog post following the trending news at the time of a cybercriminal caught following a hacking incident of a betting company. Analyzed the situation and how the hacker was handled providing a different pespctive into the matter from what the trend was. News coverage labled the hacker as a criminal but in his perspective he referred to himeself as a cybersecurity consultant. The article was aimed at looking at how the situation could be different and how to handle such cases in future for the good of the country because they will keep on coming up.
Tools Used
I dug deep into the subject but mostly focused on news coverage of different new outlets. My main source of information was videos and news articles on the internet.
Key Lessons Learned
This work highlighted the importance of balancing legal consequences with pathways for education, recognition of practical skills, and structured national programs to support cybersecurity talent.
